IF

Buenos Aires, Argentina

05-11-1954

A product of the River Plate club who went on to play at international level and later managed Argentina in the World Cup Finals in Brazil in 2014. Sheffield United brought him to England in August 1978 and he stayed there for two year, building up a fine reputation for skilfull play, while scoring eight goals in seventy-six starts. Jimmy Adamson brought him to Elland Road in June 1980, but after a poor start to the season Allan Clarke took over and to give Leeds a chance of avoiding relegation he put the emphasis on defence and consequently there was no room in his plans for skills of the little Argentinian and he scored just two goals in twenty-two starts and one game from the bench when his name disappeared from the teamsheet as February started and defensive minded Byron Stevenson took over the number ten shirt and he went to the Reserves. He returned to Argentina at the end of that season. (Leeds United Player Details)

6ft 2 ins 12st 12lb. He was loaned from Blackburn Rovers for the first three games of the season when United needed back-up goalkeepers. He had joined the club, as an apprentice, straight from school, and had signed professional forms at Ewood Park in October 1981. After his loan to Leeds, he then was loaned to Chester City in October 1982 and made sixteen starts with their first team. He did make one League start with Rovers before moving to Stockport County in August 1983. He started one hundred and eighteen League games for the Edgely Park club before moving to Bolton Wanderers in July 1986. He did not stay long at Burnden Park making twenty-six starts before joining Wrexham in March 1987 for £18,000. He made one hundred League starts at the Racecourse Ground before moving to Charlton Athletic in July 1989, for £100,000. He gave the Addicks good service making one hundred and forty-eight starts before leaving for Ipswich Town on 14th July 1999. He had made one start for Oxford United while on loan to them in in December 1998. He did not make the first team at Portman Road.

Samways joined the Doncaster Rovers Youth scheme from school and signed professional forms in August 1987. He had already played eleven games in the first team when he was loaned to Leeds United in late November 1988 when they had a minor goalkeeper crisis. He played twice for the Reserve team before returning to Rovers without making the Leeds first team. He went on to start one hundred and twenty-one League starts for Rovers, before departing to nearby Scunthorpe in September 1992, after a short loan period, where he started one hundred and eighty League games. He moved to York City in July 1997, again after a short loan period, where he started twenty-nine League games. His contract with York ran out on 31st May 1998 and he joined Darlington on a free transfer in August 1998 and started thirty-four League appearances, one of which was as a substitute before he was released on 21st July 2000. He then went into Non-League with Matlock Town and Frickley Colliery where he played his last game in 2002-03.

Santos

Nuno Luis Costa/Nuno

23-09-1998

1998-1999

Gk

Setubal, Portugal

20-04-1973

28-09-1997

Santos started with Caldes in his native Portugal and after playing Junior football with them he graduated to the Under-nineteen team before turning professional at the start of the 1991-92 season. He then joined his home town team of Vitoria Setubal at the start of the 1992-93 season and spent that season there before being loaned to Clube Operario Desportivo for the following season of 1993-94 to gain experience which stood him in good stead when he returned to Vitoria, where he stayed until the end of the 1997-98 season, making forty-one starts and coming off the bench on one occasion. Although he spoke little English, he came to Elland Road on a three month trial period to try to earn a contract as he was available on a free transfer under the Bosman ruling after his contract with Vitoria Setubal had expired. He was fortunate that his fellow Portuguese and ex-teammate Bruno Ribeiro was there to speak to and help as interpreter but unfortunate that he had competition from the incumbent Nigel Martyn and his deputy Mark Beeney and the fast rising Youth keeper Paul Robinson. After Mark Beeney was laid low by injury early in the season, it was the England Youth keeper who initially found himself on the bench in case of injury to Nigel Martyn. Santos was a typical 'foreign' keeper, who was very agile and provided the photographers with plenty of spectacular photographs as he went through his paces in training and with the Reserves. While Robinson was given his chance between the posts when Martyn was injured and could not play in the home fixture against Chelsea in late October 1998, it was Santos who was on the bench watching the future England keeper keep his first clean sheet for United. While Santos was given playing time in the Reserves so that United could assess his capabilities, Robinson continued as Martyn's deputy against Bradford City, in a home game in the League Cup, and at Derby County with Santos available from the bench but unused, on each occasion. However, Nigel Martyn recovered from injury for the UEFA Cup game at home to Roma and it was Robinson as his deputy until the end of the season, with just one more appearance for Robinson again with Santos as his unused deputy, in the home fixture with West Ham United, after Martyn had been injured at Old Trafford in the previous game. Santos did come through his trial period and obtained a contract until the end of the season but never made the bench again and played out the rest of the season as the occasional Reserves' goalkeeper as Robinson was given more playing time in the Reserves, with Santos watching from the bench. He faced the same dilemma as David Harvey, David Seaman, Henry Smith, Mark Beeney and later Danny Milosevic; that of a good goalkeeper destined to wait in the shadows as consistent, competent and mostly multi-International first choices were permanent fixtures in goal for United. His game did improve while he was with Leeds, learning to catch under pressure rather than punch but at the end of the season he returned to Portugal and joined Benfica. He stayed with the Lisbon club from 1999-2000 until the end of the 2002-03 season but found himself loaned out to Spanish club Badajoz and Portuguese club Santa Clara during the 2000-01 season and another Portuguese club Beira Mar in 2001-02, where he started twenty-four games and sat unused on the bench in another eight. He started seven games and won a Portuguese Division League medal with Santa Clara during his first stint with the team in 2000-01. A lack of first team games at Benfica saw him on his travels once more at the start of the 2003-04 season, when he returned to his hometown club for the following season, making thirteen starts and being unused on the bench for another twelve. He rejoined Santa Clara for the start of the 2004-05 season remaining there for three seasons, starting sixty-eight games, coming off the bench once and remaining unused on nine occasions until he left, in 2007, for Rochester Rhinos in the U.S.A. He only started two games for them before moving to Toronto FC in 2008 and then returning, without having started a first-team game, to Portugal at the start of the 2008-09 season with Gondomar SC. There he made nineteen starts and sat unused on the bench for a further eleven. He moved to FC Arouca at the start of the 2009-10 season, making nine starts but leaving at the end of that season. His travels next took him to Cyprus, where he joined Ethnikos Assias FC. Now aged forty-one he is listed by some statisticians as a member of the squad but has not added to the ten starts he made in the 2011-12 season. (Leeds United Player Details)

He played a total of eighty-four games for Leeds before losing his place to Irish International Jim Twomey and, on 7th July 1939 he joined Scottish club, Queen of the South. He had not been there long when WW2 came and he was posted to Blackpool, with whom he guested and won medals in one of the finest teams of the war years. (Leeds United Player Details)

Rawtenstall

11-04-1959

Lancashire born, he was a regular member of the Lancashire and England Schoolboy teams. Signed in the face of stiff opposition, he signed as an apprentice in July 1975, before turning professional in April 1977. While he shone in the Juniors and played regularly in Reserve team football, he never made the first team. I would like to thank Mr H. Berry for forwarding the details of the date of birth and defining the place of birth as Rawtenstall (rather than Bacup) and the following more detailed information "Savill who attended Blackthorn School, Bacup was not quite sixteen when he played for Bacup Borough in the 1975 Lancashire Junior Cup final, having made his first team when only fifteen and a half. He had played with the English schoolboys the previous season and gained caps against Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, West Germany, France and the Netherlands. His potential attracted the clubs in the Football League and Don Revie drove down personally to sign him as an apprentice for Leeds United. Although he spent seven years at the club he did not break into the first team and when released was only offered terms by Wimbledon. He decided instead to go and play in Australia, where he had toured with the England schoolboys. He accepted an offer from Launceston Juventus and played for them for ten seasons, twice being voted the best player in Tasmania. After retiring he coached Northern Rangers, South Hobart and Devonport City."

Harrogate

04-07-1966

5ft 11ins 12st 2lb in 1984, he attended Rossett High School in Harrogate and represented North Yorkshire Schoolboys at Under-Nineteen level. He signed Apprentice forms in February 1984. He established himself in the United Juniors and then the Reserve team as an Inside Right but did not progress further and after then playing at right back, he went on to sign professional forms with Bristol Rovers in July 1985. At Eastville he became a central defender, scoring twice in seventy-two League games, of which four were as a substitute. In July 1987 he moved to Wimbledon and became the pillar of their defence and scored eleven goals in two hundred and forty League games of which five were as a substitute, before moving to Liverpool on 2nd September 1994 for £3.5 million. At Anfield he scored twice in sixty-five League starts and while there he collected three England caps in eight days, the first being on 3rd June 1995 in a 1-0 win over Japan at Wembley five days later he came on to replace Gary Pallister, ten minutes from time in a 3-3 draw with Sweden at Elland Road and three days later his final cap came in a 1-3 defeat by Brazil at Wembley. While at Wimbledon he had scored in a 4-2 win over Northern Ireland at Hillsborough on 10th May 1994 for England "B" and added another cap at that level while at Liverpool in a 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland at Anfield on 13th December 1994. Liverpool agreed terms with both Leeds and Tottenham for his sale for £2.6 million and on 11th December 1996 he joined the White Hart Lane club after it appeared that he would rejoin his first club, but he changed his mind at the last minute. His time at Spurs was blighted by injury and after nineteen League starts and three more from the bench he moved, on a free transfer, to Ipswich Town in July 2000, where he made just two starts before retiring at the end of the 2000-01 season.

Scott joined Leeds in May 1950, from Workington and was understudy to Harold Searson before displacing him as first choice keeper in November 1950. He became United's recognised first choice for several seasons, but his career was punctuated by injuries, often caused by his own bravery but always fought back to regain his number one spot until the emergence of Royden Wood in the 1954-55 season, when he went on a long unbroken run as the Leeds keeper. A fine club servant Scott was awarded a benefit but returned to Workington at the end of the 1955-56 season. (Leeds United Player Details)

He was well over six foot tall when he joined United as an apprentice in 1980 and in his Central League debut, at home to Preston North End, he gave an outstanding performance to keep a clean sheet and made two appearances with the Reserves that season, but with Henry Smith the regular choice he had to bide his time in the Juniors. The following season he made twenty-one appearances for the Reserves as John Lukic was ever-present in the first team. With the return of David Harvey and with John Lukic the clear number one choice, Seaman was allowed to go to Peterborough United in August 1982 for £4,000. He was able to establish himself as first choice at London Road and made ninety-one League appearances before Birmingham paid £100,000 for him on 5th October 1984. He had two seasons with the Blues before leaving St Andrews, and he joined Queens Park Rangers on 7th August 1986 for £225,000, after making seventy-five League appearances for them. While at Loftus Road he made his first international appearances for England and after four years and one hundred and forty-one starts with Rangers he was sold to Arsenal for £1,300,000 on 18th May 1990. Ironically, his signing triggered the sale to Leeds of his former superior, John Lukic, for £1m. It was at Highbury that he gained many honours at club level, as Arsenal were Champions of England in 1990-91, 1997-98 and 2001-02 and runners-up in 1998-99, 1999–2000, 2000–01, 2002–03 while they were F.A. Cup winners in 1992-93, 1997-98, 2001-02, 2002-03 and runners-up in 2000-01. They won the League Cup in 1992-93 and the Charity Shield in 1991, 1998, 1999 and 2002 and in 1993 they were runners-up. In European competitions they won the UEFA Cup-winners' Cup in 1993-94 and were runners-up in the following year, were runners up in the UEFA Cup in 1999-2000 and were runners-up in the UEFA Super Cup in 1993-94. On a personal level he was awarded the MBE in 1997. At International level he made ten appearances for England Under-Twenty-Ones, was capped six times for England "B" and seventy-five times at full international level. He left Arsenal on a free transfer to Manchester City on 4th June 2003 after four hundred and six League apperances in the thirteen years he was at Highbury. He started nineteen League games for them before being forced to retire at the age of forty due to recurring shoulder injury in January 2004.

He was twenty-four years old and stood 6ft 1ins and weighed 12st 7lb, when he went straight into the Leeds first team, playing a major role in their re-emergence in the 1949-50 season and was ever-present until displaced by Jack Scott in November 1950. He had to play second fiddle to Scott and left for York City on 27th November 1952, after over one hundred United appearances. 5ft 8ins 9st at seventeen, he joined Leeds from school on 21st July 1982, after attending Hinde House Comprehensive School. He soon became a Junior of outstanding ability and became a regular with the Reserves and had been included in the first team squad by Christmas 1982 and went on to make his debut in May 1983. He signed professional forms in July 1983 and scored twelve goals in seventy-two starts and four games from the bench, before he was one of the many bright young players sold by Billy Bremner as he replaced the young stars with more experienced players. He joined Blackburn Rovers in July 1986 and went on to score thirty-five goals in two hundred and two League games, of which eight were as a substitute, before he was bought back for £ 800,000 by United in July 1992. He had also played three times for the England Under-Twenty-One team in 1987-88 and while Howard Wilkinson had bought him as cover for his left midfield, the continued excellence of Gary Speed meant that he was restricted to just six starts and one game from the bench, before he was sold to Newcaste United for £700,000 in March 1993. He scored five goals in fifty-six starts and five games from the bench, but had lost his first team spot to David Ginola and Bolton Wanderers paid £750,000 for him in December 1995. He scored nineteen goals and played one hundred and twenty-three games in the League for the Trotters, including six as a substitute. He left to join Huddersfield Town on 22nd June 1999 on a free-transfer. He made forty-nine League appearances, of which nineteen were as substitute, scoring just once. He left Town in April 2001 and went to Danish side Aarhus GF on a free-transfer, where he scored once in twenty appearances before returning to the Football League with Mansfield Town on 22nd March 2002 to help them in their successful promotion push. He scored three times in the League from seventeen starts and three more off the bench, while at Field Mill until injury caused his retirement and a new career as a coach.(Leeds United Player Details)

Sharp

Kevin Philip/Kevin

08-09-1992

1992-1995

LB

Sarnia, Ontario, Canada

19-09-1974

Although born in Canada, he was only eighteen months old when his family returned to England where his father, Frank, once had trials with Tranmere Rovers when playing for Flint Town. Young Sharp was pigeon-toed as a youngster and later had to wear special shoes to correct a problem with the development of his knees, but it did not prevent him from shining as a young footballer. He started with Poulton Le Fylde in the Blackpool League, before joining Blackpool Town. He then went to the FA National School of Excellence at Lilleshall for a couple of years. Together with Jamie Forrester he joined Auxerre in France and the pair cost Leeds £120,000 in September 1992 when Howard Wilkinson spotted their potential. He became a member of the Leeds F. A. Youth Cup winning team and blond-bomber Sharp proved an effective left-sided player in either midfield or defence, acting as cover for Tony Dorigo in the latter role. An England Under-Fifteen, Sixteen, Seventeen and Eighteen year-old International, he gained eight caps at the latter level and was in the strong England team of 1992-93, which won the European Championship that season and contained five Leeds players and the likes of Paul Scholes, Robbie Fowler, Sol Campbell, Gary Neville and Nicky Butt who all went on to reach the highest pinnacles of the game, together with several others who had long careers in the Football League. Sharp looked to have a promising future at Elland Road, but slipped down the pecking order, with the emergence of Ian Harte and after eleven starts and six games from the bench in the League, on 30th November 1995 he moved to Wigan Athletic for £50,000 with a clause giving United a further £25,000 after the then twenty-one year-old had made twenty appearances and a further £25,000 after forty games. In addition Leeds would receive twenty-five per cent of any profit Wigan made if they sold him. It was a Wigan club record fee at the time. He soon became a crowd favourite at Springfield Park, he was not always in agreement with the Wigan Management team. After a contract disagreement with Manager Ray Mathias, he spent most of the 1998-99 season on a week to week contract but, with the advent of John Benson, he signed a new three year contract, but the 1999-2000 season saw his season dogged by injury and suspension. He was twice red-carded and gained the unwanted title of the last player to be dismissed at the Old Wembley Stadium, when he was dismissed with four minutes remaining of normal time with the score at 1-1, in the Second Division Play-off Final against Gillingham, which Wigan lost 2-3, after extra-time. In the 2001-02 season Sharp made only two League and two Cup appearances, all before his final game at Wrexham in the LDV Vans Trophy on 16th October 2001 and on 25th October 2001 his contract was cancelled by mutual consent. Leeds did get the extra £50,000 but no more as after scoring ten goals in one hundred and sixty-two League starts and twenty-two more as a substitute, together with no goals in seven starts and three games from the bench in the F.A. Cup, one goal in seven starts and two games as a substitute in the League Cupand one goal in seventeen starts and oneas a substitute in other games such as the Football League Trophy and Play-off games, he went to Wrexham on 1st November 2001 on a no-contract free-transfer, having picked up a Third Division Championship medal in his first full season of 1996-97 and an Auto Windscreens Shield winners' medal in 1998-99. He made twelve League starts with Wrexham as well as three from the bench as the Welsh side were relegated from Division Two. He moved to Huddersfield Town on 10th August 2002, again on a free-transfer, and while playing thirty-nine games, including one as a substitute, together with one start in each of the F.A. Cup, League Cup and the Football League Trophy, Town suffered the same fate as Wrexham. On 18th June 2003 he moved to Scunthorpe United on a free-transfer, where he was a regular in his first season but hardly played in the second season as Scunthorpe gained promotion and he moved to Shrewsbury Town on a free transfer on 2nd July 2005. He had scored twice and made forty-one League starts and five games from the bench, together with six games in the F.A. Cup, one being from the bench, two starts in the League Cup and four starts in the Football League Trophy, in his two year stay with the Irons. On arrival at Shrewsbury he was appointed club captain, however, in early 2006, loss of form resulted in the Shrewsbury fans turning against him, and the Manager was forced to drop him from the team at the end of February 2006. He was released at the end of the season after scoring once, a penaty, in thirty League games, three of which were as a substitute, together one start and one game from the bench in the League Cup. He played in pre-season games with Guiseley and joined them on a short term basis, but he joined Scottish First Division side Hamilton Academical, on an amateur basis in November 2006. He made his debut against Livingston in a 1-1 home draw on 2nd December 2006. He was released by the club at the end of January 2007 due to the return of other experienced players in his position, having played only eight games. He then joined Northwich Victoria in August 2007, where he became player-coach alongside Neil Redfearn. He played seven games before being released in December 2007. He obtained his UEFA B license and coached the Under fourteens at the Wigan Athletic School of Excellence until he was appointed assistant coach to Simon Weaver at Harrogate Town on 9th June 2009. He presently works for First E11even Sports Management as a Football Consultant, having joined them in March 2011. (Leeds United Player Details)

Sharpe started with local side Stourbridge Falcons and he signed schoolboy forms with Birmingham City at the age of fifteen. A trial for Fourth Division Torquay United, at sixteen, saw him join the Plainmoor club on a two year apprenticeship and sign professional forms for them on his seventeenth birthday. He made his debut as a sixteen year old, coming on with twenty-five minutes to go as the substitute left winger on 3rd October 1987 at Exeter City in a 1-0 away win. After scoring three goals in nine League starts and five games from the bench, he was still only seventeen, when he was signed by Alex Ferguson for Manchester United on 10th June 1988 for £185,000. It was a record fee for a trainee at that time. He soon broke into the first team, making his debut in the First Division in a 2-0 win over West Ham at Old Trafford on 24th September 1988. He initially played out of position at left back before getting the left wing spot in the 1990-91 season. He was called up into the England Under-Twenty-One side, making his debut in a 0-1 defeat by Greece at Patras on 7th February 1989, when still only seventeen. He was capped eight times at that level. He played a key part in United's success in the European Cup-Winners’ Cup in 1990-91 and scored a hat-trick against Arsenal at Highbury in the 1990 League Cup. United won that game 6–2 and Sharpe cited the game as one of the best memories in his footballing career. Having established himself as a left winger, Sharpe earned a call up to the England squad, although he was unable to oust John Barnes as first choice left winger. But he did make his England debut as a half-time substitute for Tony Adams in a Group Seven UEFA European Championship 1-1 home draw with the Republic of Ireland at Wembley on 27th March 1991. Sharpe would have been a regular first team player were it not for injury and Ryan Giggs, who also played on Sharpe's preferred left-wing position. However, he would still manage to win a lot of medals and these started with the 1991 Cup Winners' Cup, the 1992 League Cup, and he also gained his only England "B" cap on 28th April 1992 against C.I.S. (Russia) at the Torpedo Stadium, Moscow, when he started but gave way to Matthew Le Tissier at half-time. He gained eight full caps for England. He may have involuntarily vacated the international scene, but he still accumulated more honours as United went from strength to strength and he picked up three Premiership Champions medals in four years and also added an F.A. Cup winners medal in 1994. He was famous for doing an Elvis impersonation at the corner flag when he scored a goal and for getting lots of fan mail from female admirers. Unfortunately, he had been out of the game for long periods of time through injury and illness. He suffered from viral meningitis, and when his fitness recovered, the form of Ryan Giggs meant he had to play out of position at left back or on the right wing, competing for a place with Andrei Kanchelsis. Illness sidelined him for much of the 1996 season and the emergence of David Beckham and Paul Scholes left little place for him in the Old Trafford first team. In total he played two hundred and sixty-three games, including fifty-two as a substitute, for the Red Devils during eight years there, scoring thirty-six goals. Despite his injury history, Leeds signed him for £4.5 million on 12th August 1996, making him their record signing. Misfortune seemed to befall him at every turn. First, the manager who signed him, Howard Wilkinson, was sacked early into the first season. He was replaced by George Graham, who made no bones that he did not want players with flair, but rather those with a defensive attitude. Therefore Sharpe faced an uphill battle to establish himself. When it seemed that he was winning Graham over, he snapped his cruciate ligament and was out for the best part of a year. When he returned, David O’Leary was in charge. A poor performance against Roma was all the excuse he needed to tell Sharpe " you’re not getting up and down the wing like you used to”. Again his time at United was beset by further injuries. He made twenty-six Premiership appearances in 1996-97, scoring five goals, but a pre-season knee injury ruled him out for the entire 1997-98 season and he was unable to regain his place in the team on recovery. He had scored five goals in twenty-eight League starts and two games from the bench, while at Elland Road. In December 1998, he was loaned to Italian Serie-A strugglers Sampdoria, but soon fell out of favour and on 23rd March 1999, after just three appearances, he returned to Elland Road. He immediately signed on loan for Bradford City and scored twice in the League, in six starts and three games from the bench, as he helped in securing the club's promotion to the Premiership after seventy-seven years outside the top division. He joined Bradford in a £250,000 deal on 15th June 1999 and helped preserve the club's Premiership status in 1999-2000. In 2000-01, Sharpe lost his place in the Bradford team and on 1st February 2001 he went on loan to Division One Portsmouth for the rest of the season, making seventeen appearances, without scoring, for the Fratton Park team. He returned to Bradford for the 2001-02 season but when his contract expired at the end of the season he was given a free transfer. At Valley Parade, after signing permanently, he scored twice in forty-seven League games, including seventeen from the bench. After an unproductive trial with Grimsby Town, he had a brief spell at Exeter City, who he joined on 12th August 2002, on a free transfer and scored once in four starts. This was followed by a move to Grindavik in Iceland, where he featured in just seven games. In September 2003 he announced his retirement from first class football at the age of thirty-two, due to a back problem. He then went on to become a reality TV star and media personality. During 2003-04, Sharpe made a brief return to football in the Kidderminster Sunday League before signing for Northern Counties East Premier League side Garforth Town the following summer. There he scored six goals in twenty-one appearances.(Leeds United Player Details)

Shepherd joined Leeds as a trainee professional and signed professional forms on 15th September 1995. He featured regularly in the Youth team with the occasional Reserve game, his debut coming as an eighty-seventh minute substitute and November 1995 he was called into the England Under-Eighteen team. He gain nine caps and scored two goals. It was a surprise when George Graham called him up for the first team on 26th October 1996 at Arsenal for his first and only game for United at senior level. He became a regular in central defence for the Reserve team and he gained England Youth honours and was part of the 1997 England World Youth Under-Twenty Championship squad in Group F in Malaysia, along with his Leeds teammate Mark Jackson. He scored once in gaining three caps. However, the competition for places at Elland Road was intense and he was loaned to Ayr United for a month in March 1998, where he scored once in six League appearances. In February 1999 he was loaned to Tranmere Rovers for a month but only made one substitute appearance. He left Leeds on 1st October 1999 and joined Ayr United where he had been previously on loan. He scored once in twenty-one League appearances, of which one was from the bench before having a three month summer spell in Iceland with Keflavik IF in the English close season of 2000. He joined Scunthorpe United on 29th September 2000 on a free transfer. He only managed one substitute appearance with the Irons before joining Luton Town on 22nd March 2001, again on a free-transfer after also having trials with Crewe Alexandra and Wimbledon. There were just seven League appearances for Shepherd at Kenilworth Road before he was on the move again, joining Oldham Athletic on a free on 1st October 2001. He did not make the first team at the Latics and was loaned out to Scarborough on 14th December 2001, scoring twice in ten League appearances before returning to Oldham on 12th March 2002. He dropped into Non-league football when Conference club Scarborough came back for him for the new season, getting him on a free-transfer on 1st July 2002. He was a regular with Boro scoring six times in thirty-five League games, one of which was as a substitute. He had a trial with Yeovil Town, but, after a first half trial for the Yeovil Reserves at Dorchester Town on 24th July 2003, he was not taken on. He did, however, join a further Conference club, Leigh RMI, once more on a free, on 7th August 2003. Again he was a regular making twenty-five starts and four games from the bench and scoring once in the League before being released on 4th May 2004. He then joined Harrogate Town on a part time basis in August 2004 before moving to Stalybridge Celtic on 3rd February 2005. He made his debut two days later at Ashton United in the Vanarama Conference North in a 3-2 win. He scored his first goal in his twelfth game in a 1-2 home defeat by Kettering Town on 12th April 2005 and added a second in a 2-0 home win over Hucknall Town thirteen days later before playing his sixteenth and final game on 30th April 2005 in a 3-2 away win at Redditch United. Younger brother of John Sheridan, he was an apprentice at Elland Road and though he progressed through the Juniors to play a handful of games for the Reserves he left football after being released by Leeds in December 1985. A left-footed midfielder, Sheridan did eventually start playing in the Sunday League at local amateur level in Manchester. He was tempted back to semi-professional football in 1989 by Unibond League side Winsford United. He spent four years with Winsford before, at 26, he was spotted in action by a Barnsley scout and joined the Oakwell club on 12th August 1993. He went on to score five goals in one hundred and seventy-one League games at Oakwell, of which twenty-two were as a substitute. Promotion to the Premiership in 1997 allowed Sheridan to follow in his brother’s footsteps and be part of the footballing elite and make his comeback complete. He moved to Barrow on 2nd July 1999, where he scored four goals in fifty-three League starts and eight games as a substitute before leaving to join his brother at Oldham Athletic on 12th July 2001. He scored three goals in ninety-one League games, of which seventeen were as a substitute before leaving to go north of the border to join Clyde on 1st July 2004, scoring twice in twenty-nine League starts and one game from the bench. He stayed in Scotland when he moved to St Johnstone on 31st May 2005 making forty-two League starts and seven more from the bench, without scoring, before returning South to rejoin Barrow on 1st July 2007. He added another forty-one League appearances, which included two from the bench, before leaving by mutual consent on 11th February 2012. He played for a month with a former club, Radcliffe Borough in the Northern Premier League Division One North, before joining Droylsden in the Conferance North, making six starts before retiring at the end of the 2011-12 season.

Although born in Manchester he was qualified to play for the Republic of Ireland and played for them at Youth, twice at Under-Twenty-One , twice at Under-Twenty-Three, at "B" level, and thirty-four caps for the full Republic International team. He started with Manchester City, but was rejected after playing for their Juniors and signed for Leeds in March 1982. He progressed through the Juniors and Reserves and made his first team debut in November 1982 but in October 1983 he broke his leg in a game at Barnsley, which saw him miss the rest of that season. He became the centre-piece of the Leeds team until Howard Wilkinson decided that he did not fit into his plans and sold him to Nottingham Forest, for £650,000 in July 1989 after he had scored forty seven goals in two hundred and thirty appearances, of which just five were as a substitute. He did not figure in Brian Clough's plans either and four months later, having never pulled on a Forest first-team shirt, in a League game, he was sold to Sheffield Wednesday for £500,000 in November 1989. At Hillsborough he soon commanded the same adulation as he had received at Elland Road and went on to score twenty-five goals in one hundred and ninety-seven appearances, of which just ten were as a substitute. He was loaned to Birmingham City for one start and one game from the bench in February 1996 before joining Bolton Wanderers in November 1996 for £180,000. After helping the Trotters to promotion he spent time with Doncaster Rovers in Non-League before returning to League football with Oldham Athletic and commencing his managerial career.(Leeds United Player Details)

He was a prolific goalscorer with Cherry Orchard during his schoolboy days and his exploits earned him an invitation to join Leeds United. He went through his trainee period and soon played with the Juniors at Under-Seventeen level and later with the Under-Nineteens, However his progress to the reserves was only as an unused substitute and his debut was from the bench and not in the starting team. The club was going through a successful period and there was acute challenges for all positions at every level. Even after the club's financial meltdown positions in the reserves were at a premium and by 2004 as his five year contract was almost at an end he had not seen much action at that level. In February 2004 he was loaned to Shelbourne for three months. At the end of that time he was released by Leeds and remained at Shelbourne for another season before he moved to Kildare County in the summer of 2005, where he saw out the rest of the Irish season, scoring five goals in twenty-one appearances, before joining Shamrock Rovers in December 2005. He stayed with Shamrock Rovers for the first six months of the season before rejoining his first club, Cherry Orchard, in August 2006. He played with them until December 2008, but left to play a couple of months with Bray Wanderers in February 2009, but returned without having played a game for them in April 2009. He did not stay long at Cherry Orchard, just to the end of the season in June 2009. He joined Crumlin United in August 2009. Shutt started with Spalding United in 1981. In May 1985 Howard Wilkinson took him to Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer. He scored sixteen goals in forty League appearances at Hillsborough, four of which were as a substitute. He moved to Bristol City for £55,000 in October 1987 and carried on his good scoring record with ten goals from forty-six League games of which seven had been as a substitute. Howard Wilkinson exchanged him for Bob Taylor and £50,000 in March 1989 and again he proved to be a reliable source of goals with seventeen from forty-six League starts and thirty-three from the bench, as he was often used as a late impact player and he scored several memorable such goals, the most important of which came at the Camp Nou when he got the winner in a replayed European Cup tie against Stuttgart. He had a one game loan spell with Malmo in August 1990. He left Leeds for Birmingham City for £50,000 on on 23rd August 1993 but could only score four goals in eighteen starts and eight from the bench as he struggled for form. He was loaned to Manchester City on 31st December 1993, starting five League games and one game from the bench without scoring before returning to St Andrew's on 31st May 1994. Bradford City signed him for £75,000 on 11th August 1994 and he found his form once more scoring sixteen goals in sixty starts and twenty-nine games from the bench. He left Valley Parade to join Darlington on 27th March 1997. At the Feethams he scored nine goals in twenty-eight starts and twenty-five League games from the bench, until he signed for Kettering Town on 24th September1999. At Kettering he scored five goals in forty-two starts and twenty-seven games from the bench and was still playing occasionally at forty after being appointed player-manager in 2001. He never played a League game for them but, after being loaned to Wrexham in March 1984, where he started eleven League games, he went on loan to Leeds United in March 1986. There he played in the Reserves and, like in previous loans to Derby County and Sheffield United, he did not make the first team. He was basically the understudy to Mervyn Day and he played only eight games for the first team in a three season stay, but featured on a regular basis in the Reserves. He was twice loaned to Halifax Town, for four games in March 1987 and for ten games in December 1988 before he left to join Bristol City in September 1989. There he became their regular keeper and made forty-four League appearances in their promotion from Division Three, before Keith Welch took over in the 1991-92 season. He was loaned to Walsall in September 1991, where he started ten games before being sold to Stoke City for £25,000 in November 1991. He stayed five years at Stoke and was always in contention for the first team keepers' spot making eighty appearances of which two were from the bench. After helping Stoke to win promotion from the Second Division in the 1992-93 season, he went on loan to Bradford City, but never played a game for them as he was called back to Stoke for first team duties. He was released by the Potters at the end of the 1995-96 season and joined Chester City in August 1996 and stayed there until June 1998 after making eighty appearances for the Potters, of which two were from the bench. Singh was discovered by the Leeds scouts, playing as a ten-year-old in Pudsey and he had a four week trial at their Ferndale Centre of Excellence. At fourteen he joined the Youth Academy and was playing in the Under-Nineteen side by the age of seventeen, top-scoring for them in the 2000-01 season. Leeds reserve coach, Roy Aitken, rated the young Singh very highly."He is a potential matchwinner who can beat the defence. He is capable of scoring goals and creating goals," were the coach's words. Singh was also highly thought of by George Graham but had to be content with staying in the Junior and Reserve teams as he was always well behind Harry Kewell and Jason Wilcox in any Leeds line-up. The nearest he came to first team football was when he was an unused substitute at Southampton and at home to West Ham United, midway through the 2001-02 season and then in the home leg of the UEFA Cup-tie against Hapoel Tel-Aviv in October 2002. He signed professional forms with United in September 1998 and to get first-team experience he spent time on loan with Bury in September 2001 and made eleven League starts and one substitute appearance and scored twice for the Second Division team. He had spent three months at Gigg Lane and apart from gaining valuable experience on a competitive level on a regular basis his displays gave him confidence and he also status with the Bury fans. He followed this up with three League games for Bristol City in March 2002. Initially loaned for a month, there had been hopes of him staying until the end of the season, but he failed to settle in Bristol and returned to Leeds. The following season he went on loan to his hometown team of Bradford City in August 2002 but injurires kept his appearances to just three games in the League. He did not have the best of luck with injuries and in 2003 he dislocated his shoulder, while at Bury. He had returned to Gigg Lane for the start of the 2003-04 season and started in twenty League games as well as having eight games as a substitute from which he scored twice. As Leeds descended into turmoil with an exodus of star names leaving the club, and Managers changing rapidly, Singh could only manage a game against Farsley Celtic for the Reserves in the 2004-05 pre-season and did not figure in Manager Blackwell’s plans. After being loaned out for a month to Stockport County, in February 2005, he was ultimately given a free-transfer and he made five League starts and one from the bench and scored one goal before the end of that season. The Stockport Manager, Chris Turner, left at Christmas and Jim Gannon took over as Singh scored one goal in nineteen League starts and also came from the bench on five more occasions and made three starts in the F.A. Cup, one in the League Cup and in in the Football League Trophy, in the 2005-06 season before he was released by the club. He received an offer from Sean Connor, then manager of Sligo Rovers, who were in the middle of their first season back in the top flight. At first unsure, he was finally convinced by the Belfast-born boss to sign during the July transfer window after spending a spell on trial at the Showgrounds. He scored three times in his early games, two of very high quality coming at Longford Town. There were a lot of young players and they blended in well with the more experienced players who had played in England as well, such as Darren Mansaram, Chris Turner and Liam Burns. The small squad put in a very good finish that year, achieving fifth position and also progressing to the semi-final of the FAI Cup. In January 2007 he joined up with former team mates Burns and Turner when Sean Connor took over the reigns at Bohemians. However, he spent the majority of his time there on the sidelines with his problems starting as early as the pre-season when he tore his groin muscle which required an operation. Eight of his nine League games were as a substitute, but he scored in his only start in the Cup. He was put on the transfer list on 16th January 2008. A month after the season ended, despite finishing third in the league, Connor left Bohemians. Pat Fenlon took charge and Singh struggled to gain a first-team place as Fenlon brought his own players in. Now recovered from injuries he found himself constantly on the bench. Although he was a member of the squad, he missed out on a league medal by a single game as the club fid the double. When his contract ran out in December 2008, he decided to leave the Gypsies and return to England after a two-and-a-half-year stay in the Republic. He had made up his mind to revert to English football when his former Manager Sean Connor, asked him to join him at newly promoted Dundalk in January 2009. He quickly signed a six month contract, but he failed to score after starting eleven games and coming on as a substitute in another. He had started the first ten games but suspension and sickness saw him miss the final two. He married in July and was hopeful of resigning. However, he was released by Dundalk at the end of his contract. He was without a club from July 2009 until he moved to Unibond League side, Guiseley, in September 2009. He turned out for the Lions as a trialist in a 2-0 win over Bamber Bridge on 25th July 2009. After obtaining International clearance he made his debut as he started in a 4-0 win at Burscough, in which he played seventy-five minutes before being replaced by Steve Burton. He scored once in the F. A. Trophy and made two starts and twice came off the bench in Unibond League games. In all games he started three times, came on as a substitute eight times and sat unused on the bench eleven times in the 2009-10 season. (Leeds United Player Details)

After playing in the Junior Ranks at Elland Road, he became a trainee in the 1997-98 intake and then signed professional forms on 1st February 1998. After having already represented England six times as an Under-Eighteen-Year-Old, one of their games, in Israel, had been cancelled, and he was called onto the Leeds bench at Anfield on 14th November1998. He replaced Clyde Wijnhard in the eighty-ninth minute and a few minutes later, with his first touch, he scored, which inspired Leeds to a famous victory. Despitre the imprssive array of strikers available during his time at the club he was able to feature on a regular basis, even though he had sometimes to play in midfield. He was part of a succession of fine Leeds teams that were always contenders for the EPL championship, home and European cups, but after the Leeds financial melt down, he was one of the many that the club could no longer afford, and he left for Manchester United on 27th May 2004 for £7 million. He had scored thirty-eight goals in one hundred and forty-eight League starts and another twenty-four from the bench, he had also scored four goals in eleven starts and four from the bench in the F.A. Cup, had four starts and two games from the bench without scoring in the League Cup, while in European games he had excelled with fourteen goals in twenty-eight starts and seven from the bench. He was soon hit by injuries at Old Trafford and scored seven goals in forty-three League starts and eighteen more from the bench in the EPL, together without scoring in two starts and six games from the bench in the F.A. Cup, one goal in four starts and two from the bench in the League Cup and netted four times in twelve starts and six games from the bench in European games. Newcastle United paid £6 million for him on 3rd August 2007, but once more, even though at one point being captain, he found himself on the outer, mainly in midfield as he did not find the net in sixty-eight starts and sixteen from the bench in the League and five starts in the F.A. Cup and four starts and one games from the bench in the League Cup. He was loaned to MK Dons on 29th January 2112 and he scored once in fourteen League starts and two more from the bench, but also scored one in one start and one from the bench in the League One Play-offs. At the end of his Loan term he joined MK Dons on 10th July 2012 on a free transfer and played for two further seasons scoring once in twenty-three starts and twenty-eight League games from the bench, and started five and was a substitute on three occasions in the F.A. Cup, two starts and one from the bench in the League Cup and three starts in the Football League Trophy, wihout scoring, before his contract was not renewed on 20th May 2014. He signed with Notts County as player-coach on the same day. He had started fifty-two League games and been a substitute on fifteen other occasions, started two and come off the bench in one F.A. Cup games, started two League Cup ties, and played six Football League Trophy games, two being from the bench but had not scored in any to late in March 2017. He was caretaker-manager for one game in January 2017. He gained five caps for England as an Under-Twenty-one, one at "B" level and nineteen as a full international.(Leeds United Player Details)

Like his brother Glynn, he joined Doncaster Rovers, in August 1980 as a teenager and was capped for England Youth on 23rd February 1982. He ran the midfield for a few seasons and was made club captain at only nineteen, by Billy Bremner, when Rovers were hit by an injury crisis. He won four Under-Twenty-One caps in the 1984-85 season. He soon caught the interest of the Leeds Manager Eddie Gray and was transferred to the club in the summer of 1985 for £200,000. While at Belle Vue he had scored twenty-five goals and made one hundred and eighty-one starts in League games and another seven as substitute. He had been transferred to Leeds by Billy Bremner and when Bremner took over at Elland Road his first job was to relieve Peter Lorimer of the Leeds captaincy and give it to Snodin. It wasn’t long before Division One’s bigger clubs approached Leeds for Snodin's services. Everton and Liverpool both initially offered £650,000 and this was followed by matching bids of £750,000 and finally both offered £840,000 in early 1987, and this time cash-strapped Leeds accepted. He had scored six goals in fifty-one League starts at Elland Road. Snodin chose Everton as his next team, even though he had agreed terms with Liverpool, and moved there on 6th January 1987. He added impetus to Everton’s midfield and just qualified to win a First Division Championship medal in 1986-87. He gained his first England "B" cap on 14th October 1987. Bought as a tough-tackling midfielder, the England Under-Twenty-One player he also showed his versatility and it proved to be a key factor in the title run-in but it also prevented him establishing himself as a first-team regular before making a positional switch to the defence. An injury to skipper Kevin Ratcliffe, saw him impress in the 1988-89 season, firstly at centre-half, and then at right-back. His transformation from midfielder to defender was accomplished with such speed and in such style that he was called up into the full England squad for a friendly international at the Olympic Stadium in Athens against Greece on 8th February 1989. Unfortunately, Snodin was forced to withdraw because of injury and his problems were compounded a matter of only a few weeks later when he was carried off during a game against Sheffield Wednesday with a serious hamstring problem, which ruled him out for much of the next three-and-a-half years. He did receive a second England "B" cap on 27th March 1990. However, injuries had continued to blight his career and he never received the honours he deserved. Despite lengthy periods of rest and several operations, Snodin struggled to regain his fitness and spent the whole of the 1991-92 season on the sidelines. He went on loan to Sunderland in October 1994. There he played six League games, without scoring before moving to Oldham Athletic, where he was sent-off on his debut in January 1995. He had started one hundred and forty-two League games for Everton and made another six appearances from the bench while scoring three goals. He also scored twice in twenty-six starts in the F.A. Cup and twice in the League Cup in twenty-three games, of which four were from the bench. At Boundary Park he made fifty-five League starts and another two from the bench without scoring. He later played at Scarborough in the 1997-98 season, playing thirty-five times in the League, of which two were from the bench, without scoring. He then returned to Doncaster Rovers in 1998 to manage the club where he started his career, making thirteen appearances in the Conference League, without scoring. He managed the club for eighteen months and then moved in to radio and television commentary and newspaper columnist and after-dinner speaker. (Leeds United Player Details)

He joined Rosenborg in 1985 and there he won two championship medals and one Cup-winners medal and had scored thirty goals in eighty-three games before he went on trial with Borussia Moenchengladbach. He did not make a big impression and he failed to score in any of the five games that he played in the time he was there. He went to Leeds on trial in late November 1989. He had been a part-timer with Rosenborg and his trials in Germany and England was a big challenge for him against full-time professionals. However, by then he had already started to accumulate Norwegian caps and had twenty-six to his name and had recently played a full game for them in a 1-1 draw with Scotland at Hampden Park in front of a 63,987 crowd in the Group Five World Cup qualifier on 15th November 1989. He had chosen Leeds ahead of Queens Park Rangers but the twenty-seven year old did not make the Leeds first team but earned rave reviews when he scored once and set up two more in his Reserve team debut in a 5-3 win over a strong Liverpool team at Elland Road. A Welsh Schoolboy international he joined Leeds as a Junior in June 1960 and turned professional in May 1962. A member of the fine Leeds Junior team that produced so many players of international standard, he was the first to be given his first team debut, at sixteen years of age, under harrowing circumstances, involving a charter flight to Southampton, air sickness, and the game being held up pending his arrival, after Tommy Younger had been forced to withdraw at short notice and Sprake was still in Yorkshire. It no doubt steeled him for the many vital games in which he "saved the day" for Leeds. Unfortunately, he is now remembered, mostly by persons who never saw him play, for a few momentary lapses, when there is no doubt in the minds of those who saw his performances, year in and year out, that he, as much as anyone, was the reason so many trophies came the team's way. It should also be remembered that when he was sold to Birmingham in October 1973 it was for a world record fee at the time for a goalkeeper. His full record at Leeds was five hundred and six starts and two substitute appearances in all competitions. He also started sixteen League games for Birmingham City. He was capped thirty-seven times at full International level by Wales.(Leeds United Player Details)

After playing his Junior football with Middlewood Rovers he joined the Sheffield Wednesday Youth Scheme before turning professional with them on his eighteenth birthday in October 1979. He went on to score thirty-seven goals in two hundred and seventy-nine games, of which eight were from the bench. In that time he also had made seven appearances for the England Under-Twenty-Ones one for the England "B" and had represented the Football League. He became unsettled at Hillsborough and Graeme Souness saw him as part of his strong side at Ibrox and signed him on a four year contract for £800,000 in March 1989. He went straight into the Rangers first team and finished the season having scored three times in seven starts and two games from the bench in the League, which was sufficient to earn him a championship medal. He also started four times in the Scottish Cup, which included starting in the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden Park on 20th May 1989. It turned out to be his final appearance for Rangers and he was replaced by Davie Cooper, after fifty-seven minutes, and Rangers were beaten 0-1 by Celtic and so Sterland finished with a loser's medal. Graeme Souness intended to bring in Trevor Steven as his replacement in the new season and he joined his former boss Howard Wilkinson at Leeds for £600,000. In his first season of 1989-90, Leeds won the Second Division Championship, with Sterland almost an ever-present and in their first season in the top flight he was an ever-present as Leeds finished fourth. On 1st February 1992 in the 3-0 home win over Notts County, he picked up an ankle injury, but played on with the aid of cortisone injections, before finally succumbing and missing the final ten games as Leeds won the championship. He was a star from the beginning winning awards in the two years that he was in the Dundee reserves as a teenager and after his first team debut soon became a regular and scored thirteen goals in fifty-six starts and thirteen as a substitute in the Scottish League, and gained one Scotland Under-Twenty-One cap, before being sold to Aberdeen for £50,000 in November 1977. He became a part of the all-conquering Aberdeen side that won many trophies in Scotland and in Europe, scoring fifty-five goals in one hundred and seventy-five starts and eight games from the bench in the Scottish League and had started his collection of Scottish caps that would eventually reach fifty. Manchester United paid £600,000 for his services in August 1984 and again he was part of teams that won English and European competitions as he scored thirty-three goals in one hundred and sixty League games, five of which were as a substitute. He fell out of favour at Old Trafford and Howard Wilkinson saw him as the kingpin needed to take his team from oblivion to the top team in the land. He signed Strachan from Manchester United for £300,000 in March 1989. Strandli

Frank

CF

Kristiansand, Norway

He signed for IK Start in 1989 when still not quite seventeen, but had soon made his mark with nine goals in twenty League games in the 1989 season. 1990 was not so productive with no goals in seventeen games and 1991 saw him net four in twenty-two games, but it was the 1992 season in which he scored sixteen goals in twenty-two League games that prompted Howard Wilkinson's interest. He had by then scored once in ten games for the Norwegian Under-Eighteen side and he had also first played for the Norwegian Under-Twenty-one side, initially when still not yet eighteen and had scored twelve goals in twenty-six appearances. He had also been capped for the full Norwegian team on six occasions before joining Leeds. Leeds had wanted him to come to England in October 1992 but he had to complete his National Service with the Norwegian Army and the move was delayed because of difficulties in getting a work permit. He did get half a game in a friendly against AC Milan in December, a month after collecting his sixth Norwegian cap against China. However, it all turned sour at Leeds and, suffering from homesickness, he failed to start a Premiership game in 1993-94 and in November 1994 was transferred to SK Brann for £100,000, after spending six months on loan with the Norwegian club. Even though he had languished in the Leeds Reserves he was still picked for the National squad and had scored his first international goal in his seventh international on 15th January 1994 when he opened the scoring just on half time against the USA at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium at Tempe Arizona, but Norway could not prevent being beaten 1-2 by full-time. Four days later he was on the bench against Costa Rica but was not used, but on 20th April 1994 there was a full game in a 0-0 draw with Portugal at the Ulleval Stadion in another friendly. It had all started so well. Just eleven minutes after coming on for Rod Wallace he had opened the scoring against Middlesbrough in his debut but it was to prove a false start for the big Norwegian striker. He had arrived at Elland Road just days earlier in a £350,000 transfer from IK Start, where he had scored thirty-six goals in ninety games, but he struggled to adapt to the pace of the English game and his career at both domestic and international level dipped. It had all looked so promising for a player who had first trained with Leeds in 1991 and been a fully paid up member of the Leeds United Supporters Club. However his Leeds record showed two goals in five League starts and nine games from the bench. He scored three goals in four starts after joining the Bergen club permanently in the 1994 season and he remained there until the end of the 1995 season. He scored fourteen goals in forty-two games for SK Brann before moving to Lillestrom SK in late 1995. There he found the net regularly and amassed fifteen goals in just thirty-seven starts and one game from the bench in the 1996 and 1997 seasons. His form was still good enough to warrant inclusion in the Norwegian team and he scored his second international goal when he got the fourth goal in the fifty-ninth minute of a 5-0 win over Azerbaijan in a World Cup qualifier at the Ulleval Stadion on 2nd June 1996. He added two more caps in the same competition to bring his tally to eleven with two more starts in a 3-0 win at the same venue over Hungary on 9th October 1996 in which he made way for Egil Ostenstad with seven minutes left on the clock, and the a 1-0 win over Switzerland at the Wankdorf Stadium in Bern on 10th November 1996. He then moved to Greek club, Panathinaikos, where he scored eighteen goals in sixty appearances from 1997 to 1999. His International career was on the up as Norway went on to top Group Three of the World Cup and Strandli played in all eight games, and on 30th April 1997 he played seventy-two minutes before being replaced by Jostein Flo at the Ulleval Stadion in a 1-1 draw with Finland and on 30th May at the same venue the same player replaced him for the final minute as Norway beat Brazil 4-2 in a friendly. He prought his caps to fifteen with two full games in a 1-1 draw with Hungary at the Ferenc Puskas Stadium, Budapest on 8th June 1997 in another World Cup qualifier and a 1-0 win at the Laugardalsvollurin, Reykjavik, on 20th July 1997. Three more World Cup qualifiers brought it to eighteen as he replaced Erik Mykland for the last twenty minutes of a 4-0 win over Finland at the Olympiastadion, Helsinki, on 20th August 1997, then played the first half of a 1-0 win over Azerbaijan at the Tofiq Bahramov Stadion, Baku, before being replaced by Gunnar Halle on 6th September 1997 and four days later he was a seventy-second minute substitute for Miniu Jakobsen at the Ulleval Stadion as Switzerland were beaten 5-0. Although he added three more caps in the lead up to the World Cup Finals in France in 1998 he did not make the final twenty-two players named in the final squad. He was a substitute for Stig Inge Bjornebye for the last seven minutes in a 0-0 draw with Colombia at the Ulleval Stadion on 8th October 1997, he then scored his third international goal, when he opened the scoring in the thirteenth minute of a 3-3 draw with France on 25th February 1998, when he was replaced by Egil Ostenstad for the final four minutes and the there was a full game on 22nd April at Parken Stadium, Copenhagen, in a 2-0 win over Denmark. His final three caps came in a 1-3 loss to Latvia at Ulleval Stadion in a European qualifier on 6th September 1998 and two friendlies, the first a 1-0 win over Israel at the Sammy Ofer Stadium, Haifa, on 20th January 1999, when he was replaced just before the final whistle by Jostein Flo and two days later at the Umm Al-Fahm Municipal Stadion, Tel Aviv, where he was replaced by the same player at the start of the second half in a 3-3 draw with Estonia. He then returned to Scandinavia to play with Danish club Aalborg Boldspilklub and in two years scored twenty-four goals in fifty-three matches, including nine in seventeen appearances in the 1998-99 season when the club won the championship, before retiring in September 2002, due to a groin injury for which he received $1m in insurance compensation. He coached in Southern Norway in 2003 but quit in early 2005 and then became coach of his first club FK Start. He attempted to resume his playing career as a central defender with FC Lund, a team who occupied Norway’s seventh division, but failed to do so.(Leeds United Player Details)
